I assume you arent working in a garage? I lived in glendale and had a project in my carport for months at a time and never got harassed, I think it takes a neighbor to complain for them to come out. But even in Phoenix there is a code that says any vehicles visible from the street must have current registration. If not registered it has to be covered or in the garage or backyard.

nope. i wrench around in a two car garage. and all the vehilces are tagged and running. i was called on for working on cars 9 moths ago. but that just made me stand out now and city inspecter keeps an eye on my house. had a car parked next to the driveway in the front yard. and dropped a notice off. then i pointed at the house across the street with work truck and trailer parked across the front yard ... he heseitated and tells me that hes already been cited. as there are 2 more house s on my same street with cars parked in front yard. that was 3 months ago. i dont ever leave a car in the front yard, all the other nighbors still parking in yard. since then ive had to put rock down because you cant have a dirt yard. and there are 5 houses on same street. and this is no HOA just city code..... but i just bite my tounge and try not to stir nothin up so maybe this city inspector will just move on LOL

Sorry to say but even parking on rock wont cut it. All cities have codes against parking on a non dust proof surface. This includes rock, grass, sand, etc. unless its cement they can still cite you. you had a this in Phoenix when i was at my dads house. we ended up pouring a slab next to the house.
As long as you are in the garage you can do whatever you want. If its in the driveway it needs to be a one day job and if left in the driveway needs to have tags. Ive lived in Phx, Glendale, Peoria, and Avondale. Its all the same. Your best bet is to put a gate up that you can drive your projects into the backyard when not working on them and you need the garage space.
